Larry & Daryl Comic Creation Page 3

Overview :

I'm writing this page as an addendum to my Larry & Daryl comic. If you are looking to create your own script, or are just curious as to how this whole thing got started, then please read on.
Someone suggested that I write this to help give a background to why and how a comic is created.
In doing this comic project, I have a lot of respect for playwrights and comic strip creators.

Overview :

Chapter 8 - Beginning Of The End:

This one starts out with Colley finishing her "job" for the night, or rather the next morning just before dawn. She runs into a few of her "fellow workers" and they tell her the pimp is out for her.

It seems that he's not happy that she is spending time with Daryl. Time that should be spent on her back, making money for him.

I wanted to show he was a bad mamma-jam ma and would kill whoever got in his way.

She's panic stricken and runs for her life! Straight into Daryl, who happens to be on his way to do the bank deposit that Larry was supposed to be doing. See where this is going?

we wanted a "fall in your arms" semi-romantic scene where the couple realize they like each other as more then friends.

Chapter 9 - Tight As A Vault:

So here we are at the bank. I wanted to show that Colley has a weak point and it's money.

Daryl has just about enough of his Big Gulp and needs to see a man about a horse.
This could be her ticket out of town. No! She can't do that to Daryl; he's her friend.
Just deposit the money as Daryl asks you.
Did she?

Meanwhile, back at the house, larry and Daryl are playing a game of chess. Daryl has another one of his fantasies.

By the way. this chess set was created by someone and given away as a freebie. it's a wonderful set and I will update this if I can find out who created it.

Right in the middle of things come Reggie. Did Colley deposit all of the money?

Chapter 10 - Turning Tail:

So here we are in the apartment with Reggie about to have Larry and Daryl arrested.

What did you do with the money Larry?

This is kind of like the story of Adam and Eve. God asks "Who told you to eat the fruit?"
Adam blames Eve.
Eve blames the snake.
And the snake doesn't have a leg to stand on!

Anyway. Larry blames Daryl, who blames Colley, but doesn't want to believe it.

So I see Daryl going off in search of Colley to ask her if she really did take the money. I wanted this to be a scene with a lot of different emotions and I hope it comes through. Colley does feel a lot for Daryl but she can't let her feelings get in the way of her escaping Louis.

Chapter 11 - Owning Up:

We pick up our story with Larry searching the streets for his buddy Daryl.

Larry meets up with Paul, who is his usual self, never missing the opportunity to share the gospel with a friend. Or anyone for that matter.

I wanted this to be the turning point in Larry's life, where he realizes that even though Colley is what she is, that his best friend Daryl only sees her inside, the way God would.

About this time, we pick up the story from Daryl's point of view. He thinks Colley has left for good. He doesn't care about the money. All he wants is her back. Nothing more.

He's having a conversation out loud, and Colley's listening as she rests her hand on his shoulder. They have a brief moment together before all hell breaks loose.

I wanted a tender moment in here. They both have thought about each other, and Daryl certainly has has fantasies about dancing and kissing Colley, but I have never really brought them together. Until now. Well, sort of.

Just as they are going to kiss for the first time, Louis breaks in and starts trouble.

It seems he wants his money back, and will stop at nothing toget it. Even when Colley gives him the money, he punches her out.

I had a lot of trouble with this one because up until now, I only alluded to violence, and not really showed it. But I wanted to show what a jerk (insert something here) Louis really was, so I rendered it up. In fact I worked with my layout artist and rendered this scene 8 times until we had it right. I wanted this to really look good.

Could Daryl just stand by and do nothing? I could not have that, but this story was written almost 4 years before I rendered it, so Daryl could not save the day. This had to be left up to Colley's pals. This was done for a reason. hang in there.

We didn't want Daryl involved in this because we needed Louis to really get his just deserts, and Daryl was not the guy to give it to him. Originally Tiny and Snake were going to just Drag Louis off into the darkness like the bad spirits did to the bad guy on Ghost, but then we figured it would be nicer to have Paul come to their rescue.

Noting I said their rescue. Meaning Snake and Tiny. Paul teaches them that to live by the sword is to die by the sword, a lesson they needed to hear.

And so, Louis does get his just desserts, by way of a train to Alaska, where he can cause no more harm to our gang. And in his underware too.

By the way. Besides having 3d people as passengers on the train, there are my neighbor, Lorie, and my 2 good friends, Charles and Cheryl, all going up north.

Will Louis make it back to cause more trouble? Who knows. But I think if he does; this time he may wind up at the bottom of a river.

What is next?

So what IS next in this back story? You'll just have to wait and see, but I will be updating this page as time goes on.
Will Colley return, or will they have to cancel her contract?

I will say one thing!.
Larry & Daryl are in for a major facelift.

Would you be interested in a tutorial on how the scenes are put together and post worked?
